My New Sewing Machine

For my 21st birthday my Aunt bought me a new Singer sewing machine.

This is my old sewing machine....

It badly needed to retire. It could only do a straight stitch and would jam every 10 min of sewing.

This is my new sewing machine....

I've used it once and its great! It took a little work learning how everything worked but after that it was pretty user friendly.

It has everything you would need to make a professional garment so I will be using this machine for quite some time. It can be purchased at Costco for a pretty good price.

Cute Bride and Groom Bunnies

Earlier this year my cousin got married to her boyfriend of 7 years. She is the first of my cousins to get married so I wanted to give her a unique and unforgettable gift. This year it is the year of the rabbit on the Chinese lunar calendar so I thought it was quite fitting to make her a pair of amigurumi bunnies for her wedding present. Congratulations to the happy couple <3

The pattern that I used was found at the following link:

The pattern is for a wedding cake topper and was a bit too small for my purposes so I refashioned the pattern to make a larger bunny.

Tips and Tricks:
  1. I cut a circle out of a piece of thick cardboard that is approximately the circumference of the bottom of the doll. I place that cardboard on the bottom before stuffing it so that the doll can be free standing.
  2. I always embellish my amigurumi dolls with a material other than yarn to give it that extra something. For the bunnies I made the bow on the groom and the veil on the bride out of a lace fabric to add some texture.

Hello Kitty LOVE

So I wanted to share this hello kitty doll that I made for my friend's 25th birthday gift. She loves hello kitty and I'd have to say that I gave the best gift hands down! Nothing can beat a hand made gift. <3 Read more

For everyone who is interested in making this I posted the link to the site where I got the pattern from below. I made some slight modifications since the patterns was for a doll with overalls.

Tips for making your own Hello Kitty:

  1. Download the pattern and use it as a guide. I never have all the right materials but I think that's ok. The pink yarn I used was thinner than the white yarn that I used for the head so I doubled up on the pink yarn to compensate. Try to make alterations with what you already have. I hate having to buy more needles and yarn so I just use whatever is closest to the pattern specifications.
  2. Use other amigurumi patterns from www.lionbrand.com to match the look that you want.
  3. For the dress I use
With C, ch 25.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across—24 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in each st across—48 sts.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 4 (ruffle): Ch 1, turn, *(sc, hdc) in next st, dc in next st, (hdc, sc) in next st, sl st in next st; rep from * across.
Fasten off.

The pattern is for a very small dress so increase the Ch length to match the circumference of the body.d the dress pattern from the following link:

4. To assemble sew together using a yarn needle, hot glue eyes, I added strands of pearls, and sew the whiskers on the sides of the face.
